Iris, unlike daffodils. crocus, narcissus, can be cut after they bloom. You do not cut them to the ground but kind of give them a diagonal cut across the fan of the leaves. Cut them about 5 to 6 inches above the ground. I am glad that this can be done as I have struggled a long time to figure out how to disguise floppy leaves from tulips, daffodils, etc that must be left alone and not cut if you want them to rebloom.

Can I separate my iris bulbs before the bloom this spring?
Or will digging them up nowmake them not bloom this year. I really needed to clean out my beds in the fall, but due to a back injury, I was unable to do it. I live in South Carolina.

This will give the settled plant a better chance of blooming this year, and give it room to expand. don't forget not to plant the entire rhizome under. the roots and bottom of rhizome is all that should go under ground.

My hubby and I picked out girl names that mean flower but I want middle names any suggestions and do you like the names? Surname is Bosque sounds french but not pronounced like it. These lovely old-fashioned flower names are coming back, but paired with a really modern middle name, they might sound silly. Try to stick with fairly traditional names like Ruby, Anne, Adelaide, Beth, Edie etc. Think of names that women of your grandmother or great grandmother' era might have had.
Also, maybe pair it with "virtues" names like Hope, Faith, Verity, Prudence, Grace.

I like someone else's suggestion of Lillian - I'm not really a fan of 'matched' sib sets, but since you've already got two I's and only one L, I guess you might as well match it up. At least it's not nearly as annoying as sib sets that all begin with the same letter - as with me and the rest of my J brothers and sisters lol. Lillian also fits very well with the semi-floral theme you've got going on. And Lillian doesn't particularly rhyme with any of them - it doesn't have the same -a sound ending as Isadora, it doesn't begin with the exact same letters as any of them, etc. For example, I wouldn't use Lilah, since it rhymes a bit too much with Isadora. I wouldn't use a name like Loren either, because it looks nearly exactly like Lorelai.
Other names you might like that begin with an L are: Linette, Liesel, Linden/Lindley, Lyris/Lyric (though it kind of rhymes with Iris), Lisette, etc.
Try www.nymbler.com to find names in a similar style to Iris, Lorelai and Isadora - just so they all kind of flow well. Type in the names, choose 'girls names only', and up will come tons more suggestions.

I like someone else's suggestion of Lillian - I'm not really a fan of 'matched' sib sets, but since you've already got two I's and only one L, I guess you might as well match it up. At least it's not nearly as annoying as sib sets that all begin with the same letter - as with me and the rest of my J brothers and sisters lol. Lillian also fits very well with the semi-floral theme you've got going on. And Lillian doesn't particularly rhyme with any of them - it doesn't have the same -a sound ending as Isadora, it doesn't begin with the exact same letters as any of them, etc. For example, I wouldn't use Lilah, since it rhymes a bit too much with Isadora. I wouldn't use a name like Loren either, because it looks nearly exactly like Lorelai.

Well it got it's name from the goddess Iris (I don't know what culture) she was the goddess of the rainbow. Irises come in every color. They can grow up to 6 feet tall. They are a bulbous plant also. Oh and they are the state flower of Tennesse.

I did mine in the salmon and silver last year. What color should I do this year? In annuals that is. I am not using the zonal geraniums because I thought it took too long for them to get full even with fertilizer.

Irises technically have rhizomes. It's a significant difference. If your are talking about bearded iris, Not dutch or siberian or Japanese, the rule is that they "like clean feet". They don't compete well with weeds or ground covers, and even though you should work the groun deeply, the rhizome should lay horizontal with the ground and should barely show at the surface. Mulch is not often recommended but has been used with out detriment if it is light weight and shallow.

I planted them last fall, like you're suppose to, but they just look like 2 feet tall grass blades. If I didn't know I put them there, I'd think it was grass.

It is 8 years old and has taken many years to get as big and productive as it is. It started out looking like small blades of grass too...so be patient!!
It will take at least 3 years to be covered in blooms but after that the plant base will take off. It is worth the wait...I have more friends and neighbors want slips of it than any other plant in my yard.

Try Walmart or someplace online like Bluestone Perennials. Bluestone has excellent plants. Don't go for the cheapo online sellers....they'll send small plants that will probably not bloom in the spring for you and you'll be dissapointed.

Changing the adjustment on the iris diaphragm changes the size of the cone of light that shines through the specimen. A smaller aperture means a smaller opening. The cone of light will have a smaller diameter.

When you plant iris bulbs, do you plant them seperatly or do you plant them in clumps?
I want to plant them as foundation plants (up against the house behind all the other plants). Would I plant them in a line or do three in clumps or what? I'm still learning all this stuff about gardening. Thanks!

Irises are winter hardy and can withstand temperatures of below zero so they are best left in the ground. When you replant the iris, the rhizomes like to be very close to the surface of the ground so do not plant more than 2 inches deep.
Reply:Irises won't bloom in the house. Not enough sun. I live in NW Ohio and my irises stay in the ground all year. Also, they are NOT bulbs, they're corms. Don't bury them in the ground. They'll die. Scrape away the dirt and place them on the ground. Put about 1/2" dirt on top and forget about them.

depends on the light. The Iris is the aperture controller of the camera of your eye and the pupil is the hole of this camera with the lens in it.
when in normal ambient surroundings your Iris will widen(pupils Dilate) ..in the dark it is widest which is why the night pics of a cat always result in their eyes seeming very light...
also why you have the red eye capture when you're taking the photos of people in dim light...the amount of time needed for the eye to adjust is longer than that of the flash's time...
if you focus a bright light on a person's eye when they're in the dark you'll find their iris is wide..very wide... but it'll narrow down...also training bright light directly on the eye is harmful which is why when an optician checks the response of your eye he asks you to look at a point far off so that the light isn't falling directly on your eye.
In fact the dark spots you see when you suddenly look into a bright area is because of your eye still reacting to the excessive light and trying to switch from \Rods(which are black and white dark receptors) to cones(which are color receptors).
The maximum dilation area is less in the human eye whereas, due to their being night creatures, cats and dogs have high dilation areas which is why their eyes seem brighter and scarier at night.

depends on the light. The Iris is the aperture controller of the camera of your eye and the pupil is the hole of this camera with the lens in it.
when in normal ambient surroundings your Iris will widen(pupils Dilate) ..in the dark it is widest which is why the night pics of a cat always result in their eyes seeming very light...
also why you have the red eye capture when you're taking the photos of people in dim light...the amount of time needed for the eye to adjust is longer than that of the flash's time...
if you focus a bright light on a person's eye when they're in the dark you'll find their iris is wide..very wide... but it'll narrow down...also training bright light directly on the eye is harmful which is why when an optician checks the response of your eye he asks you to look at a point far off so that the light isn't falling directly on your eye.
In fact the dark spots you see when you suddenly look into a bright area is because of your eye still reacting to the excessive light and trying to switch from \Rods(which are black and white dark receptors) to cones(which are color receptors).
The maximum dilation area is less in the human eye whereas, due to their being night creatures, cats and dogs have high dilation areas which is why their eyes seem brighter and scarier at night.

Why did my Iris's first year bloom purple petals then the following year bloomed white petals?
I can top that one. The first year my Iris didn't bloom at all. It had nice, big healthy looking leaves, but never a bloom. The next year it bloomed like crazy and it was purple petals. This last year it bloomed white background with the purple running thru it..
THEN, after the petals died, they kept coming back bigger and bigger the rest of the summer and lasted in bloom until after the first frost.....
I would think it was a plant I forgot or whatever, but it is the only Iris I have ever planted. Strange huh? No difference in fertilizer, sun, water, nothing!! Perhaps they should be renamed the "Iris Surprise".

Has anybody used IRIS OCR software? do you scan and import to it or is it a scanning program? is it easy to us
I use Read Iris Pro 11. It allows you to scan directly to it or use a previously stored image. You can have it automatically analyze your document (pick out text and graphics) or you can click and drag blocks around the text and graphic areas you are interested in. That's the way I use it. You select the application you want the text to go to. I always select Microsoft rtf.
I did not find it intuitive. It took me some time to figure out how to use it effectively. I still don't know all the ins and outs. I use it to create Microsoft Word documents from scanned images. It is amazingly accurate. I even scanned a document that had coffee spilled on it. I thought I would have to retype those areas but it got everything perfectly.
In spite of the trial and error approach, I love it, can't live without it.

First of all, tell your teacher that exams are BS. Not to offend you or anything, but everything I know I learned on my own time, and my TV class is a waste of time. Anyways, now that I'm done ranting, on to your question.
Gain is an adjustment for picture brightness. It's electronic, so it doesn't effect your motion, DOF, etc. but if you add a lot of gain, there will be noticeable video noise.
Iris (or aperture, both terms are used), is the thing that controls the opening of your camera. It's not the actual opening, but it's thing that adjusts the size of the opening. A smaller opening (a bigger F number) will reduce the amount of light and increase depth of field, while a larger opening (a smaller F number) increases the amount of light and reduces your DOF.
Shutter is the thing that controls the amount of time your imager (CCD or film) is exposed to light. On video cameras (which is most likely what you're using, unless your school can afford film ones), the shutter is electronic. Shutter speeds are indicated in fractions of a second, but often times, you will only see one number. For example, it might say SS 30, but it means 1/30 sec. Faster shutter speeds create jerkier motion, unless frame speed is sped up as well (if your teacher didn't talk about frame rates, then don't even worry about this, as it's probably not on the test).
White balance is the setting on the camera to calibrate the color white. "White" will look different under types of light (i.e. bluer, greener, etc.), so this setting tells the camera which color is white, so all the other colors are "balanced." If you don't do this, your colors will look funky.

I liked a lot, one of my favorite Johansen novels.

Guitar Tuning for Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls?
The tuning I have on my guitar is B A D D D D. The G string is tuned down to the D string that stays the same, and the thin E string is tuned down to a D, and the B is tuned up to a D.
For some reason, it doesn't sound quite right. I have the right tabs, I'm sure of it, I just think my tuning is wrong.
Suggestions anyone?

I love the Aurora and Annabel! Viola is very pretty as well (and Violet happens to be one of my most favorite girls names ever, though with Iris it might get a bit too floral lol). Rebecca is a nice enough name, but with Iris, another vowel name sounds really cool. Iris Aurora McFadden or Iris Annabel McFadden both sound beautiful.
Really, any other vowel name would sound good, though I really love the names Aurora and Annabel - Iris Elizabeth, Iris Ophelia, Iris Evangeline, Iris Amelia, Iris Olivia, etc. I think my absolutely favorite though would be Iris Annabel; it's so pretty and cute. Iris Aurora is a bit harder to say, with all the r's in it lol.
