When you plant iris bulbs, do you plant them seperatly or do you plant them in clumps?

I want to plant them as foundation plants (up against the house behind all the other plants). Would I plant them in a line or do three in clumps or what? I'm still learning all this stuff about gardening. Thanks!

When you plant iris bulbs, do you plant them seperatly or do you plant them in clumps?
Clumps look better . One noticeable clump is much better than scattered ( %26amp; sad-looking) individuals , if you are limited on how many you can plant.

"Up against the house"? Make sure they are beyond the drip line , or they will struggle, without additional watering. (by you)
Reply:6 inches away from house and plant 5 in a spot (circular) about 2 inches apart each and 3 or 4 feet away from each other hope this makes sense Put bulb food in the holes Plant them 5 inches down
Reply:You plant them seperatlely about 4 - 6 inches apart
Reply:I have planted some individually. But do so about 12 inches from the foundation of your house. And the roots, aka rhizomes, in the case of irises are L shaped. Make sure you plant it so the bottom (horizontal line in the L) is aimed away from your house. They spread in the direction of the horizontal line in the L.
Reply:I think all foundation plants should be more than 1 ft from the house. When the plant is full grown you need to have at least 12 inches of open space next to the house. You need to have a place to stand in case you have to repair something, or set up a scaffold to paint the house
Reply:The most natural thing to do with irises is to plant them about 5-6" apart, staggering them in two or three rows, so they don't look artificially lined up like little soldiers. If you plant them in a clump, they won't have adequate room to spread, and spread they will.

Be sure and plant them about a foot away from the house. They like full sun to light shade, and when you plant the rhizomes, let their backs stick up a little bit. Don't mulch them.
