How come that song "Iris" by the Goo Goo dolls is called that?

i love that song but why did they name it that?

How come that song "Iris" by the Goo Goo dolls is called that?
Johnny had wrote the song for the movie City of Angels but he didn't know what to call it so he was sitting around one day trying to think of a name and saw an add for a singer named Iris in the newspaper, he liked the name so decided to call it Iris
Reply:Lead singer Johnny Rzeznik wrote this. He had a terrible case of writer's block before coming up with this. He even went to a psychiatrist for help.

This is about a person with an invisible identity who no one understands. Then, he finds true love. He wants his true love to know that he exists and that she is the only person in the world who can understand and love him - hence the last line, "I just want you to know who I am." The title means this is how I see you and me and everyone.



Iris is a part of the eye.

Reply:i don't know, but because it had that name, i couldn't find it! i also thought it was called I just want you to kn ow who i am.that makes more sense to me. But, maybe the girl their singing about had the name iris. that makes sense.
Reply:It is because he didn't have a name for it and he was reading a news paper and he came across Iris (name of some singer). And he loved the name so he named the song Iris.
Reply:Iris was the goddess responsible for delivering messages (or being the link between) the gods and humanity.

I think in regards to the song and the movie it was used in, it was basically like asking a favor of Iris to deliver his personal plea to the gods regarding his situation.
