What does the song iris from goo-goo dolls mean?

The song was written for the movie "city of angels", it is about love and wanting to be with someone so bad but not being able to. In the movie there is an angel who falls in love with a human doctor but she can't really see him and he gives up being an angel to be with her.

Reply:I think it is about someone loving someone else and not being able to be with them. It is like they can only have a realtionship through his eyes. It really makes since if you watch the movie "City of Angels" because this song was for that movie.
Reply:Iris is the mythological greek goddess who would leave messages in rainbows. The song was written by the lead singer in a period of writers cramp, and it's about being in love in a tough situation. You could think of Edward Scissorhands, or the transgender community, or any other outcast of society who would rather be hidden away from the rest of the world but at the same time wants to reach out to the person they love. It's about pain, love, and motivation.
