After a Japanese Iris has bloomed and wilted, what is the pod like thing left at the top of the stem?

Does it have any use or just leave it alone?

leave it on the plant until it's brown... in fact, it will split open when the seeds are 'done'..... you can plant them right there or in another spot.... be aware, tho, that it will take a couple years before they will bloom.....

if you don't need any more plants, remove the 'pod' so the plant won't spend energy making seeds that you won't use....
Reply:That is a seed pod........Open it and loosen the ground a little and plant them......More plants...good luck
