Are they bearded iris? I have some that are over 50 years old, from an old Army base. They need lots of sun or they won't bloom; maybe yours are in the shade. Or else they didn't mature enough in one year to bloom.
I planted Iris last fall (alot of them about 100) and only one is blooming. Do they get old?
I read all the answers and I have to agree. The first year that I planted only some came up and bloomed. I dug down and there was sprouting. The next year, it was over half; and the third year, these bulbs that I had bought, all came up. No flowers, on most. Sixteen steams trying to come out of two or three bulbs?! I had to dig them up and separate all the little baby bulbs. The fourth year, all the original bulbs had bloomed. And here again, two-three years later the baby bulbs had bloomed also. I had bought 20-the the space I had I only needed 10. I was in a position to sell bulbs by the five year, I had so many. The hybird is important. My bulbs were in the ground at a bulb farm. Each bulb had three to six babies and you must not let them freeze, but if you dig them up be prepared for no bloom the following spring-summer.
Reply:I had the same problem with mine only a few came up ..But it might be the fact I have a Vole in the garden and guess what they eat the bulbs and toss out the husks I blamed my poor dog at first till a friend told me it was the vole, so maybe you have one too..
Reply:Give them time. If they don't bloom this year they will next. I have some that are 35 years old and Have been moved about 6 times and still look good. Mine havent blommed yet this year either cause it's been so cool and cloudy here the last 2-3 weeks.
Reply:You should get some blooms next year and more each year after that.
Reply:give them time, you just planted last year. time to time you get flowers 2nd year on.
Reply:.........
Reply:You might want to make sure they weren't planted too deep. Like many other tuberous roots, rhizomes, corms and bulbs, being planted too deeply will get you leaves but no flowers.
Reply:they do get old but the get better with age
Reply:some iris take a few years to bloom if your getting green leafs just keep taking care of them. you my have planted them to close to one an other 6 in to 1 foot apart is good and finely at the end of the season(late fall)you should cut the green leafs down to 5 inches tall. This promotes good growth next year. I always cut mine so thay have a pointlike this ^I just think it looks nice.
Reply:Be patient, they do not bloom usually untill their 2nd year.
