Hey S,
Both, some are rhizomes and some are bulbs. Rhizomes are a form of roots. The rhizomes creep along, under ground, and can put up a plant at any node along the rhizome. You can split Iris by cutting the rhizome and planting in 2 different places. The bulbs, well, each is a self contained unit.
Are iris' bulbs or roots?
Tubers
They are like a big inflated root system.
Reply:Both bulbs and rhizomes depending on type.
Rhizomes by the way, are swollen stems that grow horizontally in the soil, which then sends out roots and shoots from its nodes
A bulb is a verticle shoot that has thickened leaf bases or modified leaves and is used for food storage for the plant.
Reply:both bulbs and roots ( or called rhizomes)
Reply:THEY ARE BOTH
Reply:Their root system is formed by spreading underground rhizomes. See source for information on iris and their care.
Reply:We call them bulbs but I think they are rhizomes... Very fun flowers and pretty good for cutting too.
I think the Ranaculas are tubers...and you can see part of the difference
