I have brown eyes that are turning gray from the outer rim toward the iris. Should I be worried?

Thanks for the responses, but I should add the gray ring does not go away. I was involved in a car accident some ten years ago. I wear glasses because of it, and my vision is blurred most of the time. My doc said "It's a sign of age." I am only 55. age my ****. I am very nervious of doctors (I wonder why).

I am 53, and I can get why doctors are not your 'friends'.

Are you able to see an opthalmologist?

I can only reccomend seeing one because of an oil-spill reaction I had twenty years ago. He was able to treat the infection and give me back what I had.

If the 'doctor' you refer to is anything other than the aforementioned, try to change up for the second opinion.

I have heard of age being a factor, just not alone. It is usually tied to something else.

Good Luck with that.
Reply:Change in the color of the iris in an adult is quite unusual. Possible causes include the effects of drugs, injuries, neurologic conditions, tumors in the eye and chronic inflammations of the eye. I would suggest you see an ophthalmologist to get an exact diagnosis.
Reply:You are describing arcus senilis. You can look it up on a number of websites. It is fairly common. It has nothing to do with needing glasses or your accident. If you need glasses for reading, as do most people over 45, it is probably presbyopia. That means "old eyes" or "old vision".
