The title of this song has nothing to do with the song. Johnny Rzeznik had wrote the song and he was trying to think of a title to it. so he was looking through the LA weekly one day and he saw that an artist named Iris Dement was playing a concert in town and he liked the name "Iris" so he named the song iris and that was the end of it.
