Take that as a general rule (with exceptions of course).
Most bulbs are buried three times the bulb's height into the soil.
How deep do I plant grape hyacinth/iris bulbs?
6 inches
Reply:I planted my hyacinths about 1 inch below the surface
with iris you want to leave just the top of the rhizome above ground..this helps promote blooming...if buried to deep they wont bloom most of the time and end up rotting..iris dont like alot of water and burying them deep in areas that get alot of rain or have clay ground is a certain death for this plant that can be hard to kill...i have thrown them on top of the ground and had them bloom the next year.....also it is a good ideal to plant other plants alternately in an iris bed to cut down on diseases...
Reply:Iris should not be planted too deeply - the rhizomes should be just barely below the surface of the soil. Depending on where you live you may have to mulch in the fall for protection.
Reply:not too deep, just about 3 inches below. the seeds need sunlight too. If they're too deep below, they won't grow.
