I've just planted these starter roots in my shade garden and suddenly the squirrels are DIGGING NEAR MY PLANTINGS. I want to know NOW if they're eating them, instead of waiting 'till next spring when I see those patches are still bare %26amp; ugly. Thanks.
Spiderwort, sharped lobed hepatica, dwarf iris %26amp; squirrel corn: Do Squirrels eat 'em?
I grow all these plants and have had no problem with the squirrels eating them. I suspect the squirrels have seen the disturbed soil from your planting and are looking for burried nuts and seeds. They likely think other animals have hidden food there. I once had a whole flat of ground cover dug up by the squirrels looking to see what I had burried. The poor plants were laying on the ground where the beasties had dug them out and tossed them away.
